A stunning collection of art from Poland's turbulent 20th century
Krakow's National Museum is actually seven different museums spread across the city, but the main building – housing three permanent galleries alongside temporary exhibitions – is the one to head to first. While the galleries of decorative art and military memoribilia may be of limited appeal, the display of 20th century Polish art is unmissable.
Through a selection of over 400 works, the display guides visitors through all the significant trends in Polish art, as painters and sculptors responded to the century's immense social and political upheavals. The gallery's star pieces are from the Krakow-based Young Poland movement, which injected Modernist sensibilities into Polish folk art and romanticism.
