Popular plate: The pan-fried goats' cheese is allegedly airlifted from Yunnan Province.
Tipple of choice: Drink proletariat style with the Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout.
Serving cuisine from Yunnan province in southwest China, Southern Barbarian offers an extensive selection of beer – there’s 80 varieties to choose from – curated by the owner, a brew connoisseur.
In addition to the popular pan-friend goats' cheese, be sure to order kebabs, grandma's mashed potatoes – which include pieces of pickled vegetables - and cross the bridge noodles, a standard dish throughout Yunnan.
Though Southern Barbarian is a little hard to find, the restaurant is extremely popular, especially with expats, so call ahead to reserve a table. When you arrive at the address, go inside the building, walk to the end of the hallway into a courtyard and then take the stairs to your right up to the second floor.
