A Bund-side art deco landmark building

Noteworthy for: During the Cultural Revolution, the Chinese Red Guards renamed Broadway Mansions the Anti-Imperialism Building.

This 19-floor art deco hotel sits at the northern tip of the Bund, next to Waibaidu Bridge, where the Huangpu River meets Suzhou Creek.

Once Shanghai's tallest apartment building, it is a gorgeous example of 1930s art deco, designed by British firm Palmer & Turner, which had a heavy hand in Shanghai's architecturally rich skyline.

The Bund and its surrounding neighbourhood are densely packed with historic architecture, including a slew of art deco and baroque structures, so set out on a sunny afternoon and wander from one to the next.
