Noteworthy for: Seattle is often thought to be one of the nation's rainiest cities, but it actually receives less annual precipitation than New York.
Word to the wise: The city dress code is quite casual, and you'll be needing your comfy flats to navigate Seattle's hilly terrain.
Almost all of Seattle's attractions are open year-round, but crowds and prices fluctuate substantially. Here's a quick guide:
Peak season (Jun-Sep): Seattle is dry and warm during this time, with daytime temperatures hovering at around 75°F (24°C). It's also cruise season, so the town will be packed, and it's wise to book accommodation at least four months in advance.
Off season (Nov-Apr): The 40°F (4°C) days require serious rugging up. Rain is more drizzle than downpour, so a spray jacket will suffice. Hotels are super cheap, and Washington State ski resorts including Mt Baker, Crystal Mountain and The Summit open for business.
Shoulder season (May, Oct): Avoid the crowds and high prices, yet snag the reliable weather. In May, the bulbs are in full bloom, and during October tourists have all but deserted the city. It's still wise to bring rain gear and warm clothing, just in case.
