Experience Norway's heritage and folklore
This open-air museum spans over 500 years of Norwegian heritage, folklore and customs. Visitors experience daily life in Norway from the 16th century to the present day through more than 150 different buildings representing different periods, social classes and areas of the country. There are also a small number of medieval buildings, the most impressive of which is a 13th century stave church.
Inside, there's a vast collection of photographs, folk art, costumes and toys and a permanent exhibition focusing on the culture and history of the Sami, the indigenous people of the Scandanavian peninsula. There's also a changing program of temporary exhibitions exploring various aspects of Norwegian social history.
