Noteworthy for: The teenage Edvard Munch depicted Telthusbakken in a series of watercolours.
Word to the wise: St. Hanshaugen is just a short walk (north) from here, and is crammed with cosy cafés that are ideal for a coffee fix or a quick snack.
Widely considered the most picturesque street in Oslo, Telthusbakken is lined with pretty pastel-painted wooden houses dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In summer, the traditional Scandinavian-style homes are bordered by vivid displays of garden flowers created by the street's proud residents.
And it's just as charming in winter, when the roofs are blanketed by smooth snow. At the top of the steep, narrow street is the 11th century Gamle Aker kirke (Old Aker Church) and the Vår frelsers gravlund (Our Saviour's Cemetery), also worth exploring.
To get here head to Vår Frelsers gravlund, a 10 to 15 minute walk from Stortinget and Karl Johans gate. Telthusbakken is to the east of the cemetery.
