Get ready with our local expert's handy advice
Word to the wise: Oslo is an extremely expensive city. Just try not to think about it too much.
1. If it's your first visit to Oslo, you might be visiting quite a few must-see sights. With the Oslo Pass you can enjoy 24-hour access to public transport and discounts to museums and restaurants.
2. It's best to avoid the city centre and Aker Brygge on Saturdays as they're often packed with people.
3. Whether you're swimming and hiking in summer or skiing in winter, make sure you explore the stunning nature in and around Oslo.
4. If you want to get to know the locals, hit the bars and clubs on the weekends. Norwegians can seem reserved but get them drinking and you'll soon make friends.
5. During the summer the weather is very fickle - pack your sunglasses and umbrella in your bag.
6. Osloites tend to eat a sandwich or salad for lunch and a bigger dinner. Still, there are some good lunch menus available at a few restaurants.
