Nice's quintessential seafood emporium
Noteworthy for: Oysters don't get much fresher than the restaurant owner's self-produced variety.
Established in 1908 and showing no signs of retiring, Café de Turin has been serving up an extensive variety of freshly-caught seafood to faithful diners for many a generation. Excelling at serving produce that has practically jumped out of the sea onto your plate, the café's king crabs are meaty and unctuous while devouring one of their oysters is, as poet Léon-Paul Fargue put it, "like kissing the sea on the lips".
A fine selection of reasonably-priced wine is offered as an accompaniment but when in, er, Nice - opt for a bottle of Nicholas Feuillate or Cristal champagne.
