Jericoacoara's location, spreading east to west on Ceara's coastline is perfect for catching the trade winds off Africa. There are several windsurfing locations on offer including Paradise Lake, a long, shallow lake, perfect for beginners. Waves in the sheltered bay are fairly gentle, but outside can be quite choppy and reach up to two metres high, providing good conditions for freestylers. So that was beginners, intermediates and thrill riders taken care of.
Jericoacoara has good winds all year, averaging at about 25 knots, but the best months are between July and January. The early afternoon is the windiest time of day. Access to Jericoacoara is limited and you need a 4WD to get in, it also has no street lights and is part of a 200 sq km area of Environmental Protection Area so other environmental and behaviour restrictions apply for locals and visitors.
