Established in 1975 in Gujarat, Gir is the largest tract of dry deciduous forests in the semi-arid western part of India and is the biggest home of the Asiatic lion. The Sanctuary has a topography made up of series of rugged ridges, isolated hills, plateaus and valleys. Besides the lion, Gir forms a unique habitat for the rusty spotted cat, pangolin, ruddy mongoose, civet, paradise flycatcher among other animals.
