Popularly referred to as the Old Friday Mosque, the Hukuru Miskiiy is the oldest mosque in Maldives, dating all the way back to 1656. Look past the protective corrugated-iron sheet covering the roof and some of the walls, and you’ll find a stunning structure constructed from coral stone, featuring intricate work and carvings. Within, the interiors boast beautiful lacquer work and elaborate woodcarvings, including a long panel from the 13th century commemorating the introduction of Islam to the Maldives.
