Also known as the ‘Naka Market’ owing to its proximity to a temple of the same name, the Phuket Weekend Market is a maze of delicious street food, interesting second hand goodies, cheap clothing, fancy souvenirs, quirky electronics, comfortable footwear, colourful bags and basically everything you can think of. The largest night market on the island, this one can let you purchase convincing knock-offs of brands like Adidas, US Polo Assn, Ralph Lauren and Burberry among others. The presence of DVD stores selling pirated material is also quite overwhelming.

If you get hungry, there’s a selection of delectables like barbecued chicken, fish cakes, fried locusts, buttered corn, fruit juices and local beer to sample. This is the best place to be a brave traveller and give a plate of some extremely pungent ‘durian’ a chance! The Phuket Weekend Market can be found on the Chao Fa West Road and is not very far from Central Festival Phuket. Reminiscent in several ways of Bangkok’s Chatuchak Weekend Market owing to its size and the variety of things available, this shopping paradise is ridiculously affordable despite being very touristy. Make sure you brush up your bargaining skills.
