With hundreds of kilometres of fascinating hiking trails and total absence of cars, Rigi is a massif that offers arresting views of the Alps of Switzerland and those of Germany and France. And if this stupendous beauty wasn’t enough, there are vistas of 13 pristine lakes, including Lake Lucerne, for you to feast your eyes on. At 1798 m, hikers love this mountain because of the abundance of trekking opportunities while families adore it for its forests and meadows which make for perfect picnic spots. The summit transforms into a blinding ski paradise in the winter season and the tracks extend up to 35 km. Tobogganing after dark from Rigi Kulm to Rigi Staffel is an adventure in itself. Watching the sunrise and the sunset from the summit is a visual made out of dreams and the ever-changing colours of the landscape—a little bit of red, a tinge of blue and a whole lot of green—can put a spell on you.

The cogwheel trains from Vitznau and Arth-Goldau will bring you to Weggis from where you can board a cable car that is bound for Rigi. This cable car morphs into a romantic floating restaurant every Saturday between the months of July and September. You should ideally take a boat from Lucerne to Vitznau and descend the mountain via Arth-Goldau. Swiss Pass owners will get a 50 percent discount on the journey.
