Kieseleff Park is one of the oldest parks in Bucharest, competing with Cismigiu Gardens for the record. It also happens to be inscribed as a historical monument to be preserved. The two parks share the same artistic team―they were brought in directly from Germany to design them.

Kieseleff Park was inaugurated in 1847 where previously a thick forest was situated. It covers an area of about 32 hectares of land.

Kiseleff Park is divided into two parts by the Kieseleff Boulevard―the west side has a smaller surface and is more creatively shaped with winding alleys, benches and well maintained flower carpets. The east side is more natural, bringing back to memory its original environment with older and denser trees. Don’t miss the lake in this park, even though this is quite small and not impressive, resembling more of a pond in this case. Busts of important Romanian men of culture and contemporary sculptures are scattered around the park to extend their memory and actions.

During the warm months right uptill middle of November, it’s possible to rent bicycles totally free of charge, for a maximum of two hours within the park boundaries. Along the boulevard, connected with the underground metro system in Piata Victoria, it is also possible to visit three interesting museums―the Museum of Natural History, the Geological Museum and the Museum of Romanian Peasants.
