Raireshwar is one of the forts that has been selected for renovation. It is, by literal definition, not a fort but a mammoth plateau. It is situated at 80 km from Pune and is surrounded by thick woods. However, the fort is easily accessible from Bhor via public or private transport. Till date, the Raireshwar temple, popular for being 200 years old, is maintained by the locals who reside there. As of now, development works will include facilities such as potable water, parking space and restrooms.
Referring to this development, MTDC officer Deepak Harne said, “The small fort will be developed into a tourist destination. Development work would include building pathways and tree plantations; and then a museum, auditorium, tourist centre, restaurant, tent facility and restrooms. Bullock cart rides and boating will also be started.”
Reportedly, the MTDC has also started working on some of the forts in Junnar, after it was announced to be a tourist hotspot this year.
