Constructed on top of a gold mine that downed its shutters in 1971, Gold Reef City is a massive amusement park that is themed around the gold rush that began on The Reef (Witwatersrand) during the late 19th century. With an opulent casino of the same name, as many as 30 twisty roller coasters and exciting water slides, it caters to people of all ages. As a matter of fact, Gold Reef City has the biggest and the tallest rides in all of South Africa along with the only 4D theatre in the country. The most popular adventure rides include the ‘Anaconda loop roller-coaster’, ‘Tower of Terror thrill ride’ and ‘Golden Loop roller coaster’. Expect to have a whale of a time with your family.
Keeping its historical essence in mind, the park also has a mine museum that conducts underground mine tours for all the inquisitive tourists. Also, the Gold Reef City Casino has a fantastic gaming arena along with restaurants that serve hearty African meals, all of which will make you come back for more.
