With its address near a beautiful landscape, the Botanic Gardens are a popular draw. As garden architecture goes, the 1839 Palm House with its range of tropical plants, is a stellar example of a glasshouse made from glass and curved iron. The Tropical Ravine House offers views from the balcony—of a sunken ravine with some of the oldest seed plants around today—as well as cinnamon and orchid plants. As worth seeking out as the hornbeam oak and the rose garden, are insights into the botanic garden—arising from an exploration of the structures. The Palm House, for instance, stood for Belfast’s burgeoning industrial prosperity in the Victorian Era.
