Zurich’s Freitag is a unique shopping destination and an architectural marvel rolled into one. It is essentially constructed out of 17 freight containers that are stacked one on top of the other and houses thousands of exquisite bags and wallets. These accessories are all handmade and recycled using airbags, seat belts, spare tubes and tarpaulins. They are available in an array of colours and look classy despite being crafted out of reusable material. The prices of these goodies are on the higher side because Freitag is strictly for collectors with truckloads of disposable income. Paying $350 for an environment-friendly backpack does not make sense to everyone, after all. Founders Daniel and Markus Freitag came up with this exclusive brand idea in 1993 and its success can be gauged by the fact that there are Freitag stores in Germany, Italy and even Thailand for that matter. The one in Zurich is its flagship outlet.

This factory-like structure stands at a height of 85 m and is spread across four floors. Massive steel staircases will transport you to the gorgeous display of purses. Visitors can enjoy brilliant views of the West district of Switzerland’s largest city while indulging in retail therapy.
