Even if you look past the awards that this one’s swept —as canteen, bar and music venue— you just have to enter to know that it’s worthy of your time. The dress code is as casual as the vibe is easy. Whatever you’re in the mood for—live music, film, comedy, an art exhibition—you’re likely to find something to suit your whim. Both local and international musicians are hosted here. The food, in keeping with new-wave dining in Manchester, emphasises the fresh and the local. Relish a plate of smoked mackerel pate or slow-cooked mutton, with beer, cask ale, wine or just some fair-trade coffee.
