Individuality in design and experience—is what defines a stay here. This original Victorian school-house building—now transformed into a luxury townhouse hotel, is hard to beat. Although the stay comes with all the attendant luxurious trimmings, you’re thankfully never allowed to forget the building’s quirky history. The Mezzanine, for instance, is open daily for breakfast, features historic sepia photographs of former pupils of the Victorian school. The headmaster’s office—with its original steel beams, is used now for boardroom meetings. In whatever it does, the Great John Street Hotel retains a playful, design-focused edge. The rooftop lounge includes—a hot tub, sun lounge, informal seating and a glass veranda. The Oyster Bar is all deep, comfy sofa and luxurious armchairs, perfect for traditional afternoon-tea. And the rooms each with its own unique character, ranging from classic to eclectic, are a home away from home.
