For those who came in late, William Conor was a painter known for his depictions of working-class life in Ireland. During the First World War, the sketches of soldiers that he created, were significant. To dine in his former studio, now a café filled with natural light, serving a mix of modern and classical fare (and situated conveniently across from the Ulster Museum), is always pleasing. Not least because of the interesting background that the place has. However, there are other things to satiate one, like fresh homemade crab cakes, fish n’ chips with mushy peas in tartar sauce and sticky pies with buttery mash and vegetables.
