This monumental structure shed its former identity as the official palace built for the Bishops of Down. It has transformed admirably into its new avatar—as a five-star hotel with all attendant luxuries thrown in. Despite the amenities it boasts, it has a tough time keeping up with the landscape in which it’s set— namely 12 ac of secluded gardens. Succeeding remarkably in pleasing all variety of travellers, you’re as likely to bump into those here for business and couples who’ve arrived for a spa holiday or a spot of golf. A stone’s throw from many stellar parkland golf courses, the concierge can easily make visiting arrangements. Royal Belfast Golf Club is also popular with most travellers.
