The world famous Tsukiji fish market (to be hyperlinked) is comprised of two parts. The interior is the wholesale market for restaurants and bulk purchases. And an outer market, officially known as Tsukiji Jogaii Market, is full of retail shops, fish stalls and restaurants selling the freshest sushi and seafood in town.

That portion of Tsukiji is more tourist-friendly than the inner market, and more delicious. Stop somewhere that looks good, grab a meal, and partake in some people-watching while you eat. Just make sure to finish all your food before you resume wandering around. Japan can be a quirky country, and they have a “no eating while walking” rule that is strictly enforced.

Recommended dish: Home of the freshest sushi in town; come early and come hungry.
