A well-known part of Japanese cuisine is tempura—seafood and vegetables that have been battered and fried to crispy deliciousness. There are countless restaurants around Tokyo where you can indulge in this delicacy; however, one of the best in the entire metropolis is Tsunahachi. Don’t believe me? Tsunahachi has been open since 1923, nearly a hundred years, which means they must be doing something right.

Most quality tempura restaurants also have high price tags, but that is where Tsunahachi is different. Their tempura is top-notch and the prices are surprisingly affordable. A basic lunch starts at around 1,500 and dinner at 2,400 yen, but Tsunahachi also offers a variety of larger sets and meals. Ingredients include shrimp, eel, squid, lobster, seasonal fish and other seafood, all in addition to the obligatory vegetables, of course.

Recommended dish: Since Tsunahachi is known for its tempura, I would be a hypocrite to recommend anything other than the Tempura Set. Shrimp, eel, assorted seafood, veggies, rice and miso soup. Delicious! Just do not forget the sake.
