Derek Freal

Derek Freal abandoned the American Dream in 2009 to travel the world and eventually realized that Asia is the best part, which is why most of his writing covers India to Indonesia (and everywhere in between). However Derek"s specialty is in unique and offbeat travel guides -- not just for Asia but countries across the globe -- and in producing travel videos. All this and more as the nomadic journey continues on http://blog.theHoliDaze.com.

If price is not a criteria, make a reservation at Mantra, consistently ranked as one of Pattaya’s premiere restaurants. Here, chefs simultaneously and flawlessly craft together meals from around the world thanks to their seven kitchens—one for Chinese, Japanese, Mediterranean, Indian, Western, seafood and last but not the least, a kitchen for charcoal grilling. Plus, thanks to the glass walls and all of this visible to Mantra’s diners.

Monday - Saturday Mantra does not open until 6 pm and only serves dinner; however their Sunday Brunch from 11 AM to 3 PM is the stuff of legends. Keep in mind that despite their location at the start of Beach Road, dress code is strictly enforced here during dinner, but ever so slightly less restrictive during Sunday bunch. Even so, no shorts or sandals.

Recommended dish: With an extensive dinner menu featuring so many different cuisines, I recommend coming for the Sunday brunch and trying a bit of everything.
