Those who travel the world for the love of history would know that being able to see ancient inscriptions is a boon. For those, the Epigraphical Museum in Athens would be a goldmine. This unique and largest-of-its-kind museum is literally a ‘library of stones’ where more than 14,000 collectibles showcase inscriptions, mostly Greek, right from the prehistoric times to the late Roman period in Greece. It is situated in the south wing of the National Archaeological Museum of Athens and also includes inscriptions that detail official records like the lists of war dead and tribute lists showing annual payments made by Athens’ allies in the historic times, and the decree ordering the evacuation of Athens before the 480 BC Persian invasion.
