Standing just adjacent to Jackson Square, St Louis Cathedral is imposing enough not to be missed and is considered to be the oldest cathedral in the USA. It is a beautiful white structure with three prominent towers, each topped by a dark brown spire. Though a church has always stood here, the structure was built and destroyed three times; the current structure dates to the mid 19th century. It was designated as a minor basilica in 1964. The cathedral has beautiful interiors with intricate work on pillars and ceiling, carvings and murals. The cathedral is surrounded by interesting stories. It is known to be the burial site of a voodoo priestess and attracts many pilgrims. The cathedral is also known to be haunted by a former priest and monk.
