Gelateria il Doge is located at the south end of the Campo Santa Margherita, and is one of the best gelaterias in Venice, popular with locals and tourists alike. When you see a queue of locals outside, then you know it must be good.
Gelateria il Doge is family run by two cousins who have been making and selling ice cream, flavourful gelato, and granitas (a kind of sorbet / sherbet) in their small shop for many years. This great little gelateria serves all the popular ice cream flavours you might expect, and as well as a few more imaginative creations. You should try their specialty, the Crema de Doge, a rich, creamy, and orange mixture.
The Campo Santa Margherita is also a lovely place to eat your ice cream in the sun, and watch people. Outside of the peak tourist season, Gelateria il Doge keeps the locals happy with experimental gelato flavours of all kinds of chocolate mixtures, and even flavours like ginger and hot peppers.
