If you love Indian food, the best restaurant in all of Kathmandu is in the small Al Madina Halal Foods. The place might appear unhygienic to Western travellers used to their pristine McDonald’s, however I have eaten here about a dozen times. Never been sick and never had a bad meal.

Al Madina specialises in mughlai/Kashmiri wazwan and Indian dishes. Considering the place only has half a dozen tables, their menu is fairly extensive and their prices are very reasonable. A half tandori chicken will set you back only Rs 250 and rotis are just Rs 10 each.

Best Bet? The palak paneer curry half portion is only Rs 100, and is so large it will leave you wondering why anyone orders the full portion.
