Derek Freal abandoned the American Dream in 2009 to travel the world and eventually realized that Asia is the best part, which is why most of his writing covers India to Indonesia (and everywhere in between). However Derek"s specialty is in unique and offbeat travel guides -- not just for Asia but countries across the globe -- and in producing travel videos. All this and more as the nomadic journey continues on http://blog.theHoliDaze.com.
Much as the name implies, Miniaturk is like a Mini Turkey. This massive park covers 60,000 sq m of land, and a large part of it is dedicated to miniature models. Think of it as a combination of park, art gallery, and museum.
Most of these miniature architectural masterpieces are no taller than an average person. They are designed 1:25 of the original size, and offer a glimpse at Turkey over the centuries. From the days of the Ottoman Empire all the way till recent times, all of the structures represented here are of historical importance to the region. Many have long since been destroyed, however several miniatures you will recognise from your sight-seeing around Istanbul, such as Hagia Sophia and the airport.
Get Cultured: A barcode on your ticket will activate a speaker at each exhibit in your language. Unfortunately this system becomes tiresome when you have a crowd of people here. Visit early to beat the crowds and have time to enjoy the exhibits at your own pace.
