It is Canada's largest completely enclosed national park and home to an abundance of wildlife including moose, elk, bison, mule and white-tailed deer, coyotes and the ever hard to spot Canadian lynx. Visitors here can view wildlife from the comfort of their own vehicles, making sure the kids stay nice and safe. If you do want to get out and get some fresh air in this park, there are eleven different hiking trails, including a 30 minutes Living Waters Boardwalk trail that is perfect for the kids. One of the most popular activities here is the bison backstage tour where visitors can get a backstage pass to see how the bison have been saved from extinction and the conservation methods that are being used on a daily basis. For families with a little bit older kids, canoeing on Astotin Lake is a great activity here at Elk Island National Park, but you must bring your own boat or rent one nearby as the park itself does not rent them out. Night time is a whole other experience in the park and it is one of the best places to view the Northern Lights. Bring a picnic, spread out on the sandy beach and watch as the sun set and the stars come out.
