After witnessing the contrasting life in Coptic Cairo and Islamic Cairo, return to Al Azhar Park. The park has been created out of a rubbish mound at Al Darassa Hill, which was accumulated for over 500 years. This great urban initiative was commissioned by Aga Khan Trust for culture, simultaneously relocating and protecting historical monuments in the area. This mammoth landscaping project has converted the rubbish hill into one of the world’s greatest public spaces. Lush green gardens of the park are a soothing relief after the hustle and bustle of the city. The park contains a museum and an Urban plaza with traditional Egyptian restaurants and cafes. You can opt for Lebanese specialities at Lakeview Cafe or go for an a la carte at Citadel View Studio Misr. After a long day of sightseeing, escape to Al Azhar Park and feast on succulent kebabs and khubz gazing over The Citadel in the distance. The elevation also provides an opportunity to click awesome panoramic images, with the dusty capital glowing under the setting sun.
