Paragliding is an experience in itself, flying over deep valleys, high mountain ranges, looking down at the villages and forests, feeling rush of cool air on your face, floating into the waves of the wind is quite unforgettable. Just an overnight drive from Delhi takes you to Bir-Billing that is considered to be one of the world’s best paragliding sites. Recently, paragliding world cup 2015 was held here. Resting at an elevation of 2400 m, Billing is the take off sight while Chawgan village in Bir is where the landing occurs. You can reach Billing by road or you can trek up from Bir, it’s a beautiful stretch dotted with oaks and rhododendrons. During December-January, one can expect snow in the area and paragliding can be done in these days also provided it’s a sunny day. The best season though is in between September and November. There are basic stay options available at Bir. You can opt to stay at Palampur that has more staying options from simple homestays to luxury hotels.
