If you feel like soaking up the sun at a beach in Trinidad, there is really only one place to be and that is Ancon Beach. It’s located about 10-15 km outside the city and getting there is a breeze, whether you hop on a rented bicycle or grab a cab for about $6. The beach is about 4 km long with pure white sand, calm warm waters and practically deserted all the time. Many tourists who come to Trinidad come for the cobbled streets, the live music and the heritage, and tend to skip the beach, making it calm and uncrowded most of the time. Though don’t expect a lavish beach here, there are no sunbeds or huts, only palm trees and sand. It is an ideal place to snorkel, but beware of leaving your things unattended on the beach when you are in the waters as there have been instances of theft in the past. Ancon Beach is the perfect place for travellers looking to spend some time in the water, picking shells off the beach and simply enjoying moments of tranquillity. There are a few nearby bars where you can grab something to eat and drink.
