The Gulmarg Gondola is the most popular attraction in Gulmarg and a visit to Gulmarg is incomplete without a Gondola ride. The Gondola has two phases―Phase 1 which takes people from the base station to Kongdoor, gaining an elevation of roughly 400 meters and phase 2 which is from Kongdoor to the shoulder of Aphrawat peak, gaining an elevation of roughly 900 meters.

Phase 1 area is a bowl shaped area with a vast field surrounded by forests. There are a number of small dhabas where you can enjoy a snack or a tea and soak in the surreal atmosphere of the area. In the winters, the area is snow covered and provides a great avenue for snow hiking and snow photography. At times in winters, the valley gets buried under a thick blanket of clouds and you’ll feel as if you’re literally standing on clouds.

The phase 2 area of the Gondola usually has snow throughout the year, you can walk around a little and get beautiful panoramic views of the mountains and play in the snow while you’re at it. From the Gondola station at the shoulder of Aphrawat peak, you can trek for about 30 minutes and reach the summit from where the views are simply astounding. On clear days, you’ll get beautiful views of the Pir Panjal range and the Nanda Devi peak.
