What was once a country that was entirely ravaged by the atrocities of the Second World War, Luxembourg is now an epitome of resilience and assiduity. It is one of the richest countries in the world and the affluence shows in the lifestyle of the residents of the capital. The wine flows freely, the food is lavish and every bit of the capital city is congenial right from the forested hills and meadows to the medieval fortresses. Perhaps for the longest time that I was in Luxembourg, I thought I was on the set of Game of Thrones. The city belongs to a bygone era and yet it is a majorly developed one, capable of meeting all modern standards.

The core of the city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Middle Age wonder, the Luxembourg Castle is its most conspicuous sight. It is also a financial and political hub by virtue of how it houses the European Court of Justice, European Investment Fund and Bank among other big names. When in Luxembourg, visit the City History Museum, Grand Theatre de Luxembourg and the many fortifications, the Gothic Revival Cathedral of Notre Dame and most importantly, the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial which is where some five thousand American soldiers were buried during the Second World War. The aforementioned experience could be haunting. The rest of this tiny city is gratifying more than anything else.
