To get a slightly different and wider perspective of the town, head out on a cruise on the Motlawa River, offered by many service providers along the harbour. One could even step back in time by opting to cruise on one of the few galleon-style ships. The most popular route is to sail along the harbour, which offers fabulous and panoramic view of Gdansk Old Town with ‘the crane’ and the spire of the Town Hall dominating the scene fronted by colourful buildings along the embankment. Head to Westerplatte, a peninsula outside Gdansk, where stands a massive, grey monument of the Polish defenders of the 1939 war against Germany. The cruise is usually accompanied by commentary, music, beverages and snacks.
