Opened in 2000 by Lady Shakira Caine, the wife of actor Sir Michael Caine, this was the UK’s first India-themed hotel. The brainchild of celebrity chef and entrepreneur Tommy Miah, it has Indian hardwood furniture and furnishings, canopy beds and 17 rooms with names like Aysha, Mehndi and Udaipur, as well as a Maharajah Suite. Guest can use a rickshaw. There is no bar or restaurant but breakfast can be taken at a table with a great silver elephant throne at its head. Guests can order takeaway from The Raj Restaurant on The Shore at Leith. The hotel is right on the main bus and tram route from the airport to Princes Street via West End.
