As twilight fades and night falls, park yourself at the Phillip Island Penguin Parade. There is a stand along the shore which is the star attraction of the Phillip Island Nature Park. In the silence broken only by the lashing of waves against the shore, it is surreal to see fairy penguins emerging from the sea and waddling along a designated path to their burrows. Just as the first lot disappears to their nesting places, the next lot will come along. It is estimated that almost 50 per cent of all penguins in the area cross the beach in front of the stand. To help visitors, an audio guide talks about the little penguins, educating them about the history of the penguin parade, research and environment.
