St. Nicholas’ Church is by far the most impressive structure in Mala Strana. Bell Tower has a separate entrance and opening hours from the rest of the church. There might be nobody there when you visit it. At 65 metres high, this place offers jaw-dropping vistas of Mala Strana, Vltava River, Old Town, Prague Castle and Petrin Hill. Back in the day, the tower used to provide fire warnings with a lantern or flag hoisted up, admonishing the city to take action. During the communist regime, it became an observation point to spy on western embassies. The climb to the tower is quite steep and it’s 299 steps to the top.
