Anuradha Shankar is a mother, traveller, freelance writer, compulsive bookworm.. not necessarily in that order. She lives in Mumbai and aims to travel as much as she can across the country, 11 year old son in tow. Her blog "A Wandering Mind" is primarily a travel blog, but true to its name it wanders all the time - from events to random thoughts, book reviews to her son"s latest peccadilloes
Hanuman Tok
As the name suggests, a shrine to Hanuman marks this viewpoint, which gives a wonderful view of mountains.
Ganesh Tok
A Ganesh temple here is the big attraction but again the view is magnificent.
Tashi viewpoint
This is one of the most popular viewpoints especially for watching the sunrise and sunset. Besides these, Kanchenjunga is visible from many other places in Gangtok especially some of the monasteries.
Additional information: All these points are within 8 to 10 km from the city centre and a car can be hired for a day, visiting all these points as well as other places of interest. If you plan to watch the sunrise, prepare to wake up early for sunrise is usually between 5:30 am to 6 am and the viewpoints involve climbing up a long flight of stairs. It is, however, a beautiful sight, and well worth getting up before dawn! Sunset is also early, usually around 4 pm, depending on the season.
