Spread around 7 sq km, Siliserh Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Aravalli hills of Rajasthan. Its presence is quite unexpected considering the arid conditions of the region; no wonder it is a man-made lake! It was built in 1845 by Maharaja Vinay Singh to cater to the needs of the people of Alwar. Just adjacent to the lake is a beautiful Lake Palace that he got built for his wife Shila. It not only served as the royal palace, but also as a hunting lodge which has now been converted into a hotel (run by Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation–RTDC). Besides, just a few kilometres from the lake lies a village and some waterfalls that can also be visited by tourists. Siliserh Lake is located just 170 km from Delhi and can be the perfect weekend getaway during the monsoon season when the water level is high and the surrounding area is green.
