Agumbe in Western Ghats is popular for its bio diversity and scenic beauty. The popular serial Malgudi Days was largely picturised around Agumbe town. Agumbe ghat is a lifeline that connects Mangalore and Shivamogga districts. Agumbe’s 14 hairpin bends are sharp and demand good driving skills to negotiate them. More importantly Agumbe’s sunset is legendary. Agumbe also receives some of the highest rainfalls in the region, hence is known as Cherrapunji of South India. Wildlife enthusiasts often flock to Agumbe to gain firsthand experience of its habitants. There are many small to medium waterfalls in Agumbe area that can be explored on foot―definitely a must visit during rainy season.

Agumbe is about 100 km from Mangalore, via Udupi and Hebri. As you drive up you can see the straight road between Someshwara and Hebri and the scenic nature all around. Once you’ve driven up all the hairpin bends, you will find the designated sunset view point on your left. At times, you might have to drive a few kilometres ahead before you can find a place to park. Sunset timing is usually between 6.30 to 6.45 pm. As you enjoy the sunset you can munch on fruits and snacks being sold by roadside vendors, take home great pictures and memories.
