It’s entirely worth the trouble to pay a visit to the Sheikh Grand Zayed Mosque. This spectacular religious spot in Abu Dhabi exemplifies the fine work of craftsmen there. The construction of this architecture began in back in 1996, and it took around ten years and more than 3000 workers to complete the work by 2006. Covering around 30 acres, this has become one of the largest mosques in the United Arab Emirates, which is mostly made using marble, crystals, gold, and semi-precious stones. The chandeliers installed inside the mosque are studded with Swarovski stones which look stunning! An interesting feature about this place is its carpet. It is believed that this carpet which is 67,570 square ft long and weighs 35 tonnes is the largest hand prepared carpet in the entire world.

There are certain strict dress codes for women though. They have to don an abaya which is available at the mosque, or they must be completely covered from head to toe and wrists. Dispensing with the superlatives (largest chandelier, largest carpet in the world etc.), the mosque is perhaps the finest exposition of modern Arab architecture in the world. Elaborately lit up at night, the mosque is visible from most vantage points around the city. An unmmissable spot in Abu Dhabi, this mosque is no less than a piece of legendary art.
