Word to the wise: The best honey in the Middle East comes from mountainous regions. Yemeni honey is known as the tops and can clock in for AED 1,500 a kilo.

Unbeknownst to many, the UAE has a long tradition of beekeeping. In fact, some of the world’s best honey can be found in the Middle East and much of the delectable sweet stuff is stocked at Bees Kingdom.

Owned by Abdul Aziz Bamadhaf, a beekeeper with farms in neighbouring Al Ain and Ras Al Khaimah, the store not only stocks a range of honeys but all the gear necessary to take up beekeeping, should you get the itch. There’s tasting spoons up front, so you can test the different flavours before you buy.
