Test your haggling skills at the souk
Word to the wise: The harbour is at its most stunning at sunset, when the dhows are silhouetted against the evening sky.
Abu Dhabi’s thirst for modernisation has come at the cost of many of its ancient traditions. A few remain however, and these can be found around Al Meena, where a handful of souks pay tribute to an older way of trading.
The area’s most scenic attraction is Dhow Harbour, which was a centre of commerce back when pearling was the city’s dominant trade. Nearby, the Fish Market and the Iranian Souk are among the few in the city whose character hasn’t been buried under glitzy renovations. The atmosphere is lively and deals can be found for those willing to drive a hard bargain.
