The Modern Museum is one of the best ways to experience Europe's foremost collections of art from the 20th century, featuring works by the renowned artists including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Derkert. This museum also features works of some of the lesser known contemporary artists. When the museum opened in 1958, it gained the reputation of being the world's most ground-breaking contemporary art venues. The construction of the new museum building was completed in 1998, but was closed four years later owing to structural problems. It reopened in 2004 after renovation and necessary fixes. It is located amidst the natural beauty on the island of Skeppsholmen in central Stockholm and was designed by Spanish architect Jose Rafael Moneo. The large collection at the Modern Museum showcases the contemporary art side as well as the world class modern classics of Europe. The museum also offers programs for temporary exhibitions, children's workshop and other hands on events. You can pick up a free map and guide from inside the museum’s foyer. For appetising, the museum has an amazing restaurant over the terrace with stunning views of Djurgarden and Strandvagen, an espresso bar in the foyer and a small casual cafe with its own relaxed garden area.
