Eternally popular temple in South Delhi
Built in 1974 in intricate, South Indian style, this white marble complex extends over 60 acres in Mehrauli and contains more than 20 individual temples. Chhatarpur Mandir is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Katyayani, the symbol of compassion and self-sufficiency, but within the site lie shrines to several other Hindu Gods and Goddesses.
There are also extensive lush gardens and a giant Banyan tree at the entrance to the main temple, where devotees tie red chunari (holy thread) to the trunk of the tree to have their wish fulfilled.
