A TV studio that doubles as a concert venue
For most of its 36-year run, 'Austin City Limits' was taped in a small studio on the University of Texas campus. The tapings were beloved by locals due to the top-notch music - and the free beer. The show featured Willie Nelson on its first telecast and helped introduce country music to a mass audience.
In 2011, the show moved to ACL Live, which is both an acoustically fine-tuned TV studio and a state-of-the-art live performance space. The free beer is gone, but there's still no charge to attend a taping: tickets are distributed by lottery.
