The Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) is a 91 member state legislature of the Chhattisgarh located at the centre of its capital city Raipur. The 90 members of the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha is directly elected from single-seat constituencies and one nominated from the Anglo-Indian community.

The full term of Vidha Sabha in India is 5 years, unless it's dissolved early. The present speaker of the house is BJP's Gaurishankar Agrawal, who was elected on January 6, 2014. BJP's Badridhar Divaan was elected Deputy Speaker in 2015.

BJP's Raman Singh is the present leader of the house and the chief minister of the state. Congress's T. S. Singh Deo is the leader of the Opposition.

The tenure of Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha ends on January 5, 2019. The dates of the upcoming assembly election in the state has not been announced yet.

The monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh legislative Assembly will begin from July 26 and will have five sittings, an Assembly official said on Friday. As per an official notification, the 11th session of the fifth Chhattisgarh legislative Assembly will begin on July 26 and conclude on July 30.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday released its second list of 12 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, bringing the total number of candidates announced so far to 22 for the elections to the 90-member Vidhan Sabha.

Chhattisgarh recorded 55.31 per cent of voter turnout in the second phase of chhattisgarh assembly polls till 3 pm on Friday, the Election Commission informed. At 1 pm, voter turnout in Chhattisgarh was 38.22 per cent. All the 230 assembly constituencies in the state will vote in a single phase. The Madhya Pradesh Election results will be declared on December 3. The second phase of polling in Chhattisgarh, to its 90-seat Assembly on November 17, began in 70 Assembly constituencies spread over 22 districts in the State.

1181 candidates in the running for chhattisgarh assembly elections in two phases

A total of 1,181 candidates are contesting in the chhattisgarh assembly elections, with 223 candidates competing in the first phase and 958 candidates in the second phase. The highest number of candidates withdrew their names from the Raipur City South constituency. The second phase covers 70 constituencies with 163,144,479 voters. The first phase focuses on Naxalite-affected districts and has 223 candidates competing for 20 seats. Vote counting will occur on December 3.
